The morning had been sunny with a cooling breeze, pleasant autumnal weather Downunder in Oz, and one that held the promise of a perfect afternoon! It had been a lazy morn too, well emphasized by Liquorice sprawled out in the breezeway, heavy eyelids opening sufficient to slowly note my presence for long seconds.

Keaton was asleep on his daybed that is only just able to contain the young master for the Gods did not skimp when designing our Landseer boy, creating a fellow Divinity of generous proportions. Even now Keaton’s slightly tilted head spilled over the edge of the bed, framed on each side by two enormous paws similarly drooping earthward. The young master’s nose was only a couple of inches from the concrete floor. Keaton must have been savoring dreams of things succulent and delectable for from his mouth drool dripped lazily forming a small “drool pool”!

Glancing back at Liquorice, her sleepy gaze had followed mine and perhaps my little darling shared similar thoughts. Then, beneath heavy eyelids, Liquorice’s eyes turned toward a cheeky bird that had landed nearby claiming two grains of boiled rice spilled from puppers’ breakfasts and missed when Liquorice had earlier “washed the dishes”. As friend bird flitted away Liquorice’s eyelids yielded to gravity with slumber following.

If reincarnation were to be mine, then I’d like to return as a Newf!
