Thriller seemed in little hurry to attend her number ones and number twos this morning, so we patrolled the boundary fence in the back paddock, only going clockwise today – usually Thriller patrols anticlockwise.
All was well until approaching a ten-foot deep gully below a dam when we accidentally startled four deer that were unseen among a small stand of paperbark trees on the other side of the gully – and they took off. My left hand hovered above Thriller’s coat lest a restraining hand be needed, only Her Ladyship seemed content to stare at the departing guests, watching them keenly for a second or two, then she too suddenly took off after them. With outstretched left arm, I quickly grabbed a handful of fur and loose skin over Thriller’s fast departing rump. She pulled me down one side of the steep gully with me battling to hold on while remaining upright, however, going up the other side slowed the little Miss considerably and allowed her dad to catch up. After that, Thriller powered ahead with unaccustomed speed despite me acting as an annoying drag on her progress – she is one very strong girl!!!! We reached the spot where the deer had clambered through the fence, and after a brief inspection, but before I could get the slip-lead over her head, Thriller powered off again, dragging her dear old dad, to inspect further along the fenceline before returning to where the deer decamped the property. Then the slip-lead was installed over the little Miss’s noggin and I felt in control once more. We continued patrolling the fenceline for a ways, then the little love decided to backtrack returning the way we came, and back to the house. Thriller was then one very tired old lady!!!! Those deer were enough excitement for both our days!
And she had yet to attend to her number twos!
Arthur Witten – who didn’t think the “old girl” had it in her!
Thriller – Next time dad, run faster!!!!
